Free Military and Veterans Family Day to be held at Boundless Adventures Sept. 24

BRISTOL — Kenosha County Parks, Boundless Adventures, and the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services will host the second annual Military and Veterans Family Day climbing event at Boundless Adventures in Bristol Woods Park from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24.

Active-duty military, reserve personnel, veterans and their immediate families are invited to climb for free. The park will remain open for the general public to climb that day, with civilian tickets available for purchase.

All proceeds from the civilian tickets and other donations will go to the Southern Wisconsin All Airborne Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association Inc., an independent association of volunteers that donates 100 percent of funds raised to help support local veterans.

“If my fellow veterans ‘enjoyed’ the Confidence Course during basic training, then they will find this even more fun without the Drill Instructor yelling at them,” said Jack Gibbons, SWAAC chairman.

Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser said he is pleased that the county and Boundless Adventures can make this opportunity available for veterans and active-duty military.

“This is a way to say, ‘thank you’ to our heroes who have served or are serving, and we hope many of them and their families will come out for a unique Kenosha County Parks experience,” Kreuser said.

Boundless Adventures features six acres of obstacle courses that range in difficulty based on the ability and experience of the individual. The aerial adventure park utilizes cables connected to trees or utility poles to build nine courses with over 120 elements that range 20 to 40 feet above the ground for climbers to safely maneuver to each feature.

“We’ve been proud to be part of the Kenosha County community since we opened up here in 2019, and we’re happy to offer this opportunity to honor our veterans and active-duty military,” said Lorrie Funtleyder, co-owner of Boundless Adventures with her husband Brian.

Registration for the event is required and must be done online at https://bit.ly/3mlnUI3. For more information, please contact the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services, at 262-605-6690.

Bristol Woods Park is located at 9800 160th Ave. (Highway MB) in the Village of Bristol.
