Take II: Janet Planet to perform Tuesday at Twilight Jazz

The wait is finally over for Janet Planet fans.

The original opening act of the 2021 Twilight Jazz Summer Concert Series takes the stage tonight (Aug. 31) on the south lawn of the historic Kemper Center, 6603 Third Ave.

Grounds open at 6 p.m. and the show runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Janet Planet was originally scheduled to perform on June 29. The concert was one of several postponed this season due to inclement weather.

Twilight Jazz, hosted by Anderson Arts Center, is a five-night series featuring notable and regional jazz bands.

Seating is first-come, first-served. People are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Food and drink concessions will be available for purchase. No carry-ins of alcohol are allowed.

New York Magazine has described Planet as a “sultry vocalist with a vast repertoire of jazz, blues, and standards … with some Bob Dylan thrown in for good measure.”

In 2014, Planet was inducted into the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Hall of Fame.

Twilight Jazz, wrapping up its 18th season, concludes with the Kenosha County Women’s Suffrage Celebration on Sept. 8. It was originally scheduled for Aug. 24 and postponed due to rain.

The Celebration features live music from Ivy Ford and Elaine Dame, a suffrage parade, informational booths and a fireworks show at dusk.

The concerts are sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway, Crawford & Wright Orthodontics, Dooley & Associates, First American Bank, JDR Painting LLC, Jockey, Kenosha.com, Knight Barry Title Group, Lake County Press, Palmen Motors, Prophet Wealth Management, Spectrum Wealth Advisors, Tithof Tile & Marble.
