Ranger of the Week: Alexis Baker

Junior forward scores both goals in a 2-1 victory at Purdue Northwest

By PARKSIDE ATHLETICS

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Athletics Department is committed to a balanced student-athlete experience that develops future leaders and active community members. As the only NCAA Division II member in the state of Wisconsin, we strive to live the “Life in the Balance” philosophy by promoting academic excellence, athletic success, and community engagement to ensure personal growth and development.

The Parkside women’s soccer team finished off a five-game road-trip over the weekend, marking their longest time away from home this season. Looking for a spark late in the road trip, the Rangers needed someone to step up and lead them to victory.

Enter Alexis Baker, this week’s Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week.

Baker, a junior forward, tallied both goals for the Rangers in their 2-1 victory over Purdue Northwest on Friday. She leads the team this season in multiple categories, including goals (6), points (12) and shots on goal (17). Baker currently sits in ninth place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for goals scored. Baker also led the Rangers in goals and points during the shortened 2021 spring season.

Parkside has not played at home since Oct. 1, and they will return home on Sunday, Oct. 24 against Northern Michigan. This game will be their Make-A-Wish game presented by Texas Roadhouse.

A like-minded team

Baker studies Applied Health Science at Parkside with a focus in physical therapy, and she hopes to go to grad school after she completes her degree. Applied Health Sciences is a popular field at Parkside, especially within the women’s soccer team, as 10 of the players are declared Applied Health Science majors.

Baker hopes to one day open her own physical therapy practice and help athletes recover from injuries.
