Kenosha Eats: Fiesta Fajitas

At long last, remodeled Los Cantaritos now open for in-person dining

With a proven track record in marketing and operations in the local restaurant industry, Tagliapietra shares his love of Kenosha and all of its tasty offerings through his weekly food column.

The Restaurant:

Los Cantaritos, 4031 52nd St., is a family-owned authentic Mexican restaurant with a small, modern dining room and bar.

The Featured Dish:

Fiesta Fajitas — Marinated strips of juicy steak, tender chicken & tasty shrimp sauteed with green & red peppers, onions & tomatoes served with rice & beans.

Fun Fact: Los Cantaritos is named after small clay cups believed to be the best vessels for drinking tequila-based cocktails. Ironically, until very recently, they didn’t have any cantaritos in the building. With their new interior and bar remodel, however, cantaritos are officially in-house and on the menu.

The Flavor and The Story:

In more than a year of writing about food in our amazing city, I’m not sure I’ve been this excited to share a story.

Admittedly, Los Cantaritos is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I’ve wanted to write about their incredible food since the day this column started, but they were closed for dine-in since March of 2020.

While still open for take-out and delivery, I’ve been eagerly waiting to enjoy a meal within their walls to write this story, and that day has finally come.

Kenosha, Los Cantaritos is finally open, and it’s even better than before!

While closed, the entire dining room was remodeled, adding bar seating and a cocktail program featuring fresh-squeezed juices and careful preparation.

Luckily, the menu and quality of food is still exactly the same, including what might be the best bargain in town — the Fiesta Fajita dinner.

The Fiesta Fajitas arrive at your table sizzling hot and piled high with a huge portion of large, succulent shrimp, tender asada steak, and moist chicken.

I know we like big portions in the Midwest, but this takes it to another level. Personally, I can eat until it’s difficult to move and still take home almost half of this order.

Beyond the impressive size of this dish, the house marinade and seasoning make for an incredible flavor experience that will make you happy you’ll have more to eat the next day.

The meats are all cooked to perfection and the crisp bell peppers add texture and freshness to round out the flavor profile.

The Fiesta Fajitas come seasoned well, but approachable with almost no heat. If you’re like me and want to add some fire to the dish, make sure to ask for the house-made hot sauces that are the perfect balance of heat and flavor.

While I had to pick just one dish to share with you, everything on the menu at this family-run restaurant is about as good as it gets. Other highlights include the best al pastor in town, burritos the size of a football, and my personal favorite, the chile rellenos con queso.

You really can’t go wrong.

Fiesta Fajitas are available every day and priced at $15.95. Tortillas, rice and beans are included.

Los Cantaritos is currently open for dine-in and also accepts carryout and delivery orders. You can view this dish and the entire menu as well as order online at LosCantaritosKenosha.com.
