Kenosha Calendar: Options aplenty to hear live music

Downtown is alive with the sound of live music this weekend, with many venues hosting both special events and regularly scheduled gigs.

Best Bet

“This is the type of show Fusion was designed to have.”

No matter what comes next, that description is a strong recommendation from Aimee Crucianelli, who co-owns Fusion, 5104 7th Ave., with her husband and fellow musician Danny Crucianelli.

Old Wolves

The high praise is for Friday’s show (Jan. 21) featuring four acts, headlined by Dead, Dead Swans, a folk group with Midwestern roots. Also on the special bill are Old Wolves, WT Newton and Brent Mitchell.

“We have four very talented singer/songwriters that are going to do a little more storytelling style performances,” Aimee Crucianelli said.

People will be asked to silence their phones and refrain from talking loudly during each act’s set, which is described as an “intimate listening” show.

Admission is $10 at the door.

Starting at 7 p.m. patrons can bring their own project to work on or to share with the community. The event description speaks for itself:

“This is an Open Stage Night. This is an open studio night. This is a photo studio night. This is an open mic night. This is an open jam night. All are welcome to come hang out and Create @theSpace this and every Thursday.”

Admission is free, donations and new ideas are always welcome.

Heads Up!

Each week, Kenosha.com will give Events Calendar readers advance notice of an event beyond this week’s listings that may fill up fast, have an early registration date, or something extra-special that falls on a weekday. This week, we bring you the latter: A one-of-a-kind event that kicks off a collaboration between the Public Craft Brewing and the Kenosha Public Museum system called  “PUBLIC Education.”

The monthly series opens Tuesday, Jan. 25 with “We’ve Got a T-Rex,” 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the brewery, 628 58th St. co-hosted by the Kenosha Dinosaur Museum

From the event page: “Join (KPM) Curator of Education Nick Wiersum for a cold pint at PUBLIC Craft Brewing and talk about what Jurassic Park movies got right, how they’ve reignited a global passion for paleontology, and then have your childhood dinosaur dreams dashed as he completely ruins this movie franchise with science.”

Tickets are $15 for KPM members/$25 for non-members. First beer is provided.
