This year’s theme is Wheels & Squeals, featuring daily shows and grandstand entertainment, animal barns, Discovery Barnyard for kids, carnival midway, Creekside stage with live music, and traditional and new spots for food and beverages. General admission (age 12 and over) $10, children (ages 7-11) $5, seniors 65+ and military/retired (with ID) $7, children 6 and under admitted free. Season passes $35 for 12-over, $12 for children ages 7-11.

America’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Circus outside Kenosha Creative Space

America’s Rock n Roll Circus

Nine all-original acts will take the stage for this one-day music extravaganza, from local rising stars to national indie bands. Tickets are $20. Proceeds will support Kenosha Creative Space, a local nonprofit whose mission is to lift up area artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs.

HarborPark Jazz, Rhythm and Blues Festival

Gates open at noon Saturday (Aug. 20)

HarborPark, 5501 Ring Rd.

World-renowned saxophonist/jazz pioneer Richard Elliott headlines the fest, which benefits the Mahone Fund. Music starts at 2 p.m. with R&B/Soul singer Lady A followed by Chicago’s “The Mike Wheeler Band” (blues/Top 40). Also featured are the Milwaukee Steppers and Ballroomers United (MSBU) and Racine’s DSD Steppers performing “Stepping for Academic Excellence” with Chicago DJ Tony Lane. A 50/50 raffle, silent auction and wine pull are also available. Tickets $30 in advance, $35 at the gate, $90 VIP.

Heads Up

The popular Browse & Sip returns at Blue House Books, 5615 6th Ave. A, Aug. 26-27. The second annual book and wine pairing will feature recent popular titles and upcoming releases, organized by genre, each complemented by a specially selected wine. Blue House Books is partnering with the Kenosha Literacy Council for this event, with a portion of each ticket and 10% of book sales donated directly to KLC. Tickets, which include up to eight wine samples, one full drink, and snacks, are available online for Friday (Aug. 26) and Saturday (Aug. 27). Tickets that do not include alcohol are also available for purchase.

Vehicle admission sticker is required: $8 per day for vehicles with Wisconsin plates (seniors $3) / $11 for vehicles with out-of-state plates. Small Eyes Under the Sky, 8-9:30 p.m., Hawthorn Hollow, 880 Green Bay Rd. Take turns looking through a 16-inch telescope at binary stars, dim planets, distant galaxies, and other sky objects. Learn about these objects, their distances, sizes, and orbits on a tour of the night sky. Tickets $12. 

Preschool Storytime, 10:30-11 a.m., Southwest Library Park, 7979 38th Ave. Bring a blanket or towel to sit on and enjoy socially distanced stories, rhymes, and songs in the fresh air. In case of inclement weather, storytime will be moved inside Southwest Library. 

Nights @ Northside: Make It or Break It, 6:30-8 p.m., Northside Library, 1500 27th Ave. Create a community contraption in the Rube Goldberg Machine zone or bust things up with a “breakerspace” and see what is inside of a computer or a toaster. Get sew crafty in the sewing machine room, or work together to build and ride through tape-town Kenosha. Families welcome, all ages.

Juried selections were made by artist John Jude Palencar. Museum hours: Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 12-5 p.m.

NASA @ My Library: The Daytime Sky, 9-11 a.m., Simmons Library, 711 59th Pl. Our astronomer friends from Hawthorn Hollow are back to showcase the beautiful daytime sky. Observe and unlock the mysteries of the sun and moon, directly and indirectly, with shadows, telescopes and solar filters. Learn the importance of the Earth-Sun-Moon arrangement and how to see prominent features of the moon. All ages; adults or families welcome.  This program is completely outdoors and the library will not be open to the public. 

Sunday storytime with special guest McKenzie Hensen, author of “Reggie the Hedgehog Builds a Safety Sanctuary,” 11 a.m.-noon, Blue House Books 5915 6th Ave. A. 

2nd Annual Justice For Jacob Block Party for Peace and Prosperity, 2-7 p.m., 28th Ave. Featuring family fun for all ages, free food, dance party, games and live music as well as a bounce house, double dutch and free throw contest, neighborhood cleanup, community information and more.
