The second annual book and wine pairing will feature recent popular titles and upcoming releases, organized by genre, each complemented by a specially selected wine. Blue House Books is partnering with the Kenosha Literacy Council for this event, with a portion of each ticket and 10% of book sales donated directly to KLC. Tickets include up to eight wine samples, one full drink, and snacks, and are available online separately for Friday (Aug. 26) or Saturday (Aug. 27). Tickets that do not include alcohol are also available for purchase.

City of Stars Cabaret Night at Kenosha Creative Space

Heads Up

Kenosha Creative Space will host their “End of Summer Cabaret,” a night of music, poetry, and visual arts, 7:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 29). Hosts are Jenna Zeihen and Sage Holloway. The event is part of the Soul Space series, promoting healthy human connection, safe spaces, and a mission to encourage us to hear each other’s stories.

 A $10 donation is encouraged but not required for entry. All proceeds support Kenosha Creative Space.

Between individual views in the observatory dome, receive a guided sky tour standing outside under the stars to appreciate the broader picture of what you see through the telescope. Tickets $12.

Southport Light Station Museum – Climb a Lighthouse, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, 5117 4th Ave. Free admission for the keeper’s house tour, donations are welcome. Lighthouse climb $10 for ages 12 and over, $5 for children 8-11 years old. (Must be 8 or older to climb.)

Learn how to use a sky chart, break out from our bookmobile in a space-themed escape room and more. All ages.

Open House at the Schoolyard Observatory, 9-11:45 p.m., Hawthorn Hollow, 880 Green Bay Rd. Kenosha Public Library and Hawthorn Hollow present an evening of stargazing and telescope viewing with a variety of telescopes on hand, and participants are welcome to bring their own. Volunteers will be present to help spot the night’s brightest objects. This is an adult and family outdoor event with no set viewing schedule and weather permitting (less 30% clouds.) Free.

Citizen Science: Globe at Night

Citizen Science: Globe at Night, 9-9:30 p.m., Hawthorn Hollow, 880 Green Bay Rd. This international citizen science project involves the public measuring and collecting night sky brightness observations. This outdoor program, hosted by Kenosha Public Library and Hawthorn Hollow, will be held the following night if cloud cover is more than 40% at dusk. Registration required. 

Observe the Night Sky, 9 p.m., Richard Bong Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Rd., Kansasville. Meet in Parking lot F to observe the night sky using telescopes or binoculars. Vehicle admission sticker is required: $8 per day for vehicles with Wisconsin plates (seniors $3) / $11 for vehicles with out-of-state plates. Annual state park vehicle admission sticker is also available. This event is weather permitting. On overcast nights the event will be canceled. 

Glow in the Park, 6-11 p.m., Boundless Adventures at Bristol Woods Park, 9800 160th Ave. This special night-time event will have a disco theme including neon lights, smoke machines, and music. Cost for two-hour climb is $45. 

Second Annual Kiwanis Bags tournament, 1 p.m., Sheridan Lanes, 1120 80th St. Raffle, 50/50 drawing, food trucks. $40 entry for team of 2, double elimination. Cash prize for 1st and 2nd place. Register at Sheridan Lanes.
