Civil War Museum, 5400 1st Ave.
Join the Navy Club Ship 40 in a ceremony honoring veterans from all branches of service. Open to the public. Light refreshments sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home. Also at the museum is the Veterans Memorial Gallery honoring all US soldiers and veterans. Reflective of the theme, “Solidarity of Soldiers,” this gallery depicts Civil War soldiers huddled around a campfire under a twilight sky. Surrounding them are life-size soldiers from the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts. Around the gallery perimeter are displays of artifacts and memorabilia from each war.

Acrylics International Biennial Exhibition, Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 1st Ave. This inaugural exhibition spotlights 45 paintings demonstrating the variety of subjects, styles, and techniques possible in the acrylic medium, and the diversity and skill of the featured artists. Second Friday Lecture Series, The Civil War Nursing Service of Sister Anthony O’Connell and the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, noon-1 p.m., Civil War Museum, 5400 1st Ave., Presented by Sister Judith Metz. Sister Anthony O’Connell, and Irish Catholic immigrant, entered a religious community when she was barely out of her teens and spent her life serving in Catholic sponsored ministries. Her work in hospitals of Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky as a U.S. Army nurse during the Civil War brought her fame and undying admiration of the soldiers she treated.

Sensory Friendly Day, 9-10 a.m., Kenosha Dinosaur Museum, 5608 10th Ave. This event offers visitors of all ages with complex developmental disabilities, sensory sensitivities, or on the autism spectrum a safe, comfortable environment to explore the museum exhibits during special hours before the museum opens to the general public. Where possible, lights will be dimmed and the sound turned off. Signage will be posted for those areas with sound or there other sensory triggers. Trained staff will be available to help visitors navigate the museum and offer supportive resources (noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, weighted blankets, quiet spaces), as well as opportunities for sensory engagement during exploration of the museum. Free.
Mickey the Fox Snake Encounter, 2-3 p.m., Richard Bong State Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Rd. Learn all about snakes and watch as the education snake Mickey is fed, and even get the chance to hold or touch Mickey. Meet in the Visitor Center Auditorium.
