On Friday, Dec. 9, the Parkside women’s basketball team traveled to University Center, Mich., to take on Saginaw Valley State. The Rangers were in need of a big win to start the weekend, and a career performance helped carry the Rangers to a 73-67 victory. That career-best performance came from Paty Gallasova, our Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week!
Gallasova, a redshirt junior from Prague, Czech Republic, finished the game with a career-high 26 points, along with six rebounds and four assists. She shot 7-of-14 from the field and a perfect 8–for-8 from the free-throw line. Gallasova showed that she had ice in her veins, scoring 13 of the Rangers 21 points in the fourth quarter, including the last four free throws to secure the win. On the year, Gallasova is averaging 12.1 points per game, along with 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
Gallasova started playing basketball in the Czech Republic when she was seven years old. Basketball was big in her family growing up, as both of her parents played professional basketball in the Czech Republic and her dad also coached the sport. Her younger sister, Sarah, also played basketball growing up. Paty was a member of the Czech Republic National Team from 2014 to 2016, helping her team win the championship in 2014 and 2016, with the team placing second in 2015.
After high school, Gallasova wanted the opportunity to both further her education, while also continuing to play basketball at a high level. She came to America in the fall of 2018 to attend school and play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. After realizing that Green Bay was not the best fit for her, Gallasova transferred to Parkside in 2021, where she finished her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently working towards her master’s in sports management. After she finishes her degree, Gallasova hopes to work in the basketball industry as a coach, or go into the field of sports psychology. Off the basketball court, she enjoys spending time with friends, playing board games and other sports, and getting ice cream with teammate Courtney Schoenbeck.
The Rangers will wrap up 2022 with a pair of road games against Cedarville on Monday, Dec. 19, and Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Dec. 31. Parkside basketball returns to DeSimone Arena on Thursday, Jan. 5 as the Rangers host Grand Valley State. For more information, visit parksiderangers.com.
