Ranger of the Week: Rasheed Bello

The Parkside men’s basketball team has found a lot of success through the first half of the 2022-23 season. With an overall record of 11-4, the Rangers are off to their best start since the 2016-17 season they finished 22-8. Leading the way this season has been Rasheed Bello, our Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week.

Bello, a sophomore guard from Chicago, has been an offensive force for the Rangers. He currently leads the team in scoring (19.9 ppg), while also averaging 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per contest.

This past weekend, Bello shined in front of the Parkside home crowd at DeSimone Arena. He scored a career-high 36 points in a victory over Grand Valley State on Thursday and followed that up with a team-high 26 points in a defeat to Davenport on Saturday — the team’s first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season. The Rangers are tied with Northern Michigan atop the GLIAC standings at 5-1.

Bello began playing basketball competitively in seventh grade after his older brothers convinced him to start playing. Prior to basketball, he grew up playing soccer, but chose to pursue basketball as he got older. He is the first member of his family to play basketball at the collegiate level. When asked why he chose Parkside, Bello simply stated: “Parkside gave me an opportunity to play. I didn’t hesitate to take it.” After his collegiate career, Bello hopes to continue playing basketball.

Parkside is on the road this week, with road GLIAC matchups against Lake Superior State on Thursday and Ferris State on Saturday. The Rangers return to DeSimone Arena on Monday, Jan. 16 when they host Cardinal Stritch at 3 p.m. in a non-conference Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee.
