Ranger of the Week: Cassie Rutledge

The Parkside softball team made its long-awaited return to the Case Complex as the Rangers hosted Wayne State in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2. The Rangers came away with a big win in the opener, defeating the Warriors 12-4 in six innings. Leading the way for the Green & White, was Cassie Rutledge, our Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week!

Rutledge, a senior from Bedford, Ind., went 3-for-3 with a pair of two-run home runs in the victory. Her first home run came in the second inning, as she sent a two-run shot over the left field wall to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead. Her second homer came in the fifth inning as another swing sent the ball over the left-center field fence to add two more runs to the Rangers’ commanding lead.

Rutledge began playing softball when she was five years old. She also grew up playing volleyball, basketball and soccer. However, softball was the one sport she truly loved to play. She is the first member of her family to compete at the collegiate level. For the rest of the season, Rutledge hopes to stay healthy and be competitive for the team.

Rutledge currently studies psychology with minors in criminal justice and sociology. After Parkside, she plans to go back to school in Indiana to finish her nursing degree and hopes to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

The Rangers return to action on Saturday (April 8) as they travel to face Ferris State. For more information, visit parksiderangers.com.
