KENOSHA—”Kindness: the Ripple Effect” will be the theme for the 28 th Annual Kindness Week,
which will run from Jan. 12 through 20 with a variety of events throughout Kenosha.
The Annual Community Unity Breakfast & Awards Recognition Ceremony, one of the
cornerstone events of Kindness Week, will be held starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 th at
the cafeteria of Mahone Middle School, 6900 60 th St., Kenosha. Students will be recognized for
their acts of kindness. The event is free and open to the public.
The 30 th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, sponsored by Gateway Technical College,
will be held at Noon on Monday, Jan. 15 th , in Haribo Hall at the Madrigrano Auditorium of the
Kenosha Gateway Technical College Campus, 3520 30 th Ave. The theme of the celebration is
“The Time is Now” and the guest speaker will be the Rev. Demetris Crum, Second Baptist
Church in Kenosha. The event is free and open to the public.
A highlight of last year’s Kindness Week events was a Courageous Conversation with Kenosha
Unified School District students. The discussion will be held again this year at 5:30 p.m. on
Thursday, Jan. 18 th at the Kenosha Civil War Museum, 5400 1 st Ave., Kenosha.
“There will be many community events that will celebrate and promote kindness and Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. We encourage all of Kenosha County to celebrate with us by practicing kindness
throughout 2024 and seeing the ripple effect,” said Adelene Greene, coordinator of the 2024
Kindness Week Committee.
Kindness Week is organized by the Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism with the
engagement of many community partners. The late Pastor Olen Arrington Jr. first launched
Kindness Week in 1997 to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King. Pastor Arrington Jr. lived and
preached the wisdom of Dr. King, often quoting “We must all learn to live together as brothers
(and sisters) or perish together as fools,” and “The time is always right to do what is right.”
