Kenosha, WI – February 22, 2024 – The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha is proud to announce the 2024 BGCK Youth of the Year, Talib Y. Talib has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for over 3 years. He lives in Kenosha and is currently a junior at Harborside Academy where he excels in his AP/honors classes and is also active in numerous activities.
Over the years, the Club has become a vital part of his success and development and has helped him grow into a leader. As Talib says, “The Club showed me how to make positive decisions that improved my life and helped me achieve my goals. The Club helped me become who I want to be. I have learned decision-making, communication, self-awareness, responsibility to myself and others, and to see my potential. As a junior in high school, I now help others at The Club who are in the same situation as I have been.”
Through Talib’s time at the Club, he has gained lifetime friends and mentors. He has learned life-enhancing skills and was given the tools to help him fulfill his future vision for success. The Club helped him see the impact of mentors and learn how to be more empathetic and confident. “Life’s journey may be unpredictable, but having inspiring individuals by your side encourages you to persevere, embrace resilience, and strive for excellence despite the challenges,” said Talib, “Thank you, Boys & Girls Club, for a secure place to play, grow, and learn.”
Not only has he made an impact on his peers, but BGCK staff have enjoyed getting to know Talib and see him grow over the years as well. Nicole Washpun, the Club’s Teen Center Director, says, “Talib is an amazing young man academically and personally. He has faced several challenges and has successfully overcome each one. He strives to be the best and won’t allow his struggles to hold him back.”
