KENOSHA – “Living at the Intersection of Race and Gender” will be the topic of the upcoming Courageous Conversation on Thursday, March 21st at the Kenosha Civil War Museum, 5400 1st Ave., Kenosha. The free, in-person discussion is sponsored by the Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 6:00 p.m. This Courageous Conversation will focus on the challenges and experiences Women of Color have in the workplace and in their personal lives.
“Even though all women can be affected by sexist ideas and policies, women of color are additionally affected by racist attitudes, ideas and policies in ways that are multiplied for their racial group. Intersectionality has been described as the consequence of two or more combined grounds of discrimination,” said Yolanda Jackson-Lewis, who will be moderating the discussion.
The panelists, all women of color, will be:
- Tamarra Coleman, executive director of the Shalom Center
- Lena Cooksey, retired educator, Kenosha Unified School District
- Lisa Guerrero, manager of Talent Acquisition at Gateway Technical College
- Dezarrea Kindle, Kenosha and Racine real estate agent
- Jada Robinson, Kenosha County Teen Task Force Advisor for the Concerned Citizens Coalition, and
- Laurice Snyder, consultant, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Belonging for CESA6 (Cooperative Educational Service Agency).
There will be an opportunity for audience members to submit questions and there will be a recommendation for action at the conclusion of the Courageous Conversation. For more information about this Courageous Conversation, visit the Kenosha CFDR FB page: Facebook.com/KenoshaCFDR.
