The PRAIRIE STRING QUARTET has collaborated with BEN WOODS to create an original piece that tracks the history and development of the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution. We have named the piece TOWARD JUSTICE. We were lucky enough to premiere the work at the Kenosha County Courtroom Restoration Project Program on February 3, 2024.
The TOWARD JUSTICE performance was well received. So, we wanted to perform it again for a larger audience. We will on July 30, 2024 at the Civil War Museum. I thought you might be interested in this event. Our piece is 8 minutes long.
After our piece Dr. Shannon Sloan-Spice will perform a short play, based on original letters on display in the Museum, recounting the story of Caroline Quarlis’ harrowing experiences traveling the Underground Railroad from Wisconsin to Canada in 1842.
When you arrive at 5:30, the PSQ will be performing pieces by William Grant Still and Florence Price. Information about and photographs of these composers will be posted on the walls. Also, we will have pertinent parts of Abraham Lincoln’s speeches, quotations from the United States Supreme Court and more. And snacks will be provided for by Harriet Wilson of Pastry 4U. We hope you will enjoy all of this before we start the formal program at 6pm.
