Kenosha County is coordinating National Night Out events at five locations this coming Tuesday, Aug. 6, County Executive Samantha Kerkman announced today.
All events will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and will include free food, games, activities, prizes and entertainment, as well as the giveaway of two children’s bikes at each site.
The locations are:
- Curtis Strange Elementary School, 5414 49th Ave.
- St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8760 37th Ave.
- The Salvation Army, 3116 75th St.
- Roosevelt Park, 6801 34th Ave.
- The Shalom Center, 4314 39th Ave.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, all with the goal of making neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. “Meeting neighbors, learning about community resources, and having fun is what these events are all about,” Kerkman said. “My thanks go to the host sites and all of the community partners who come together to celebrate National Night Out in Kenosha County.”
In addition to family entertainment, the events will offer community resource tables with information from agencies including the Kenosha Unified School District, the Racine-Kenosha Community Action Agency, Kenosha County Behavioral Health, Kenosha County Public Health, Community Impact Programs’ Foster Care Program, UMOS Energy Assistance, Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services Inc., and many more.
Kenosha County Gang Intervention Supervisor Donna Rhodes said the Kenosha Unified School District will have a significant presence at all five locations to answer families’ questions about the district’s recent rightsizing initiative. Donors of the bikes with helmets for prize drawings include County Executive Kerkman; Judges Gerad Dougvillo, Angelina Gabriele, Jason Rossell and Judge-elect Heather Iverson; Clerk of Courts Rebecca Matoska-Mentink; Deputy District Attorney Carli McNeill; Sheriff David Zoerner; Kenosha Police Chief Patrick Patton; County Clerk Regi Waligora; County Treasurer Teri Jacobson; Register of Deeds JoEllyn Storz; and Walmart.
Notable donors to the events include Kroger Home Delivery, Sam’s Club, The Brat Stop, Century Pub & Eatery and Oliver’s Bakery.
All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate in National Night Out events, Rhodes said. “We’re looking forward to an awesome night of community building,” Rhodes said.
