Veterans Climb event returns to Boundless Adventures on Sept. 27

BRISTOL — Military veterans and their families will have the opportunity to climb for free at Boundless Adventures in Bristol Woods Park during a special event next month, Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman announced today.

The annual Veterans Climb is open to active-duty military, reserve component personnel and veterans, plus up to two family members of each participant. Two-hour climbing sessions in the aerial adventure park will be available from 3:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

The festivities on the day of the event will include light refreshments and guest speakers during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Representatives of various organizations that serve veterans will also be on hand to share information about available resources.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for veterans and their families to climb the ropes and enjoy one another’s company at Boundless Adventures in Kenosha County’s beautiful Bristol Woods Park,” Kerkman said. “Hats off to Boundless Adventures and all of the partners from our veterans’ community who came together to present this outstanding event.”

Civilians who wish to climb during the event may purchase tickets for $45 per person, with all proceeds this year going to American Legion Post 21 in Kenosha. The sessions have limited availability for free and paid climbers, and registration is required.

More details — including links to military/family and civilian registration — are available at https://bit.ly/2024VeteransClimb. People without internet access may also call the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services at 262-605-6690.

Operated in a public-private partnership with Kenosha County Parks, Boundless Adventures began offering free military and veterans climb events in 2019, the year it opened.

Giving back to this community is important, said Brian Funtleyder, who owns Boundless Adventures with his wife, Lorrie.

“It is an honor to offer our support to our veterans and active-duty military,” Funtleyder said. “By giving them a chance to come out and enjoy Boundless Adventures for free, it’s our small way of saying, ‘Thank you for your service to our country. We appreciate you.’”

American Legion Post 21 Commander Matt Christiansen expressed gratitude that his post was selected to be the beneficiary of this year’s event.

“We are very honored and humbled to receive the support from this year’s Veterans Climb at Boundless Adventures,” Christiansen said. “American Legion Post 21 is a very active post, and this support will go a long way to help veterans and their families within our community.” Jennifer Blasi, director of the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services, said her office is pleased to be a partner in the event.

“Boundless Adventures has been and continues to be a true friend of veterans and active-duty military,” Blasi said. “Along with many in our community, I thank the Funtleyders for their generous support.”

Bristol Woods Park is located at 9800 168th Ave. (Highway MB) in the Village of Bristol.
