U.S. News & World Report this week recognized Kenosha County’s Brookside Care Center as a Best Nursing Home for Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care for 2025. The annual Best Nursing Home Rankings, now in their 14th year, assist prospective residents and their families in making informed decisions about where to receive short-term or long-term nursing home care.
For 2025, U.S. News rated more than 15,000 nursing homes on care, safety, infection rates, staffing and health inspections. Only 16 percent of U.S. skilled-nursing facilities earned the “Best Nursing Home” designation this year.
Brookside received the highest-possible rating of “Highly Performing” in both the short-term rehabilitation and long-term care categories. Brookside was the only facility in Kenosha County to receive this rating in either category.
“I’m honored that Brookside received the top honors in this thorough, national review of nursing home quality,” said Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman. “Brookside is truly a gem in our community, with a dedicated staff and a long history of high-quality care.” Brookside in previous years has appeared in the U.S. News ratings and in other national publications’ listings of the nation’s best nursing homes.
In August 2023, Brookside received a deficiency-free review from the state agency that regulates nursing homes. This review of health and life safety compliance covered a 15-month period that began in April 2022.
“I’m immensely proud of Brookside and the caring staff that make it what it is,” said Robert W. Pitts, chairman of the Brookside Board of Trustees. “Brookside is the nursing home of choice in Kenosha County, and this latest honor is further proof of that. I thank County Executive Kerkman and County Board Chairman Monica Yuhas for their ongoing support of our wonderful facility.”
Brookside Administrator Lynda Bogdala noted several factors that set the 154-bed facility apart
from other nursing homes. These include:
◼ Private rooms for all residents, some of which also include private bathrooms.
◼ Higher staff-to-resident ratios.
◼ A homelike environment, with all rooms renovated in recent years.
◼ Exceptional, café-style dining with multiple entrée options for every meal.
“As U.S. News & World Report recognizes, Brookside performs highly by many measures and it is truly an asset for the Kenosha County community,” Bogdala said. “I encourage families to visit and see all that we have to offer in this outstanding facility.”
