Rita Kauffman, 81, of Kenosha passed away as a result of a traffic accident on June 19, 2021, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was born on June 22, 1939, in Indiana Harbor, IN, the daughter of the late Edward & Mary (Humphery) O’Malley. She was educated in the schools of Gary, IN, graduating from Alverno College & the University of Purdue. She was a member of the Poor Handmaids religious order until she married Dick Kauffman on April 16, 1972, in New Hampshire. She was employed for many years as a French teacher at St. Joseph’s H.S., Lincoln Jr. High, and Tremper for many years. Rita volunteered with Hospice, Shalom Center, Kinship and other helpful organizations. Her hobbies included camping, traveling, reading, hosting family dinners, but most of all spending time with her family & friends, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Kauffman of Kenosha, sons, Don Kauffman & Matt (Jill) Kauffman both of Kenosha; brother, David (Rose) O’Malley of FL; sister, Kathy (Tom) Molnar of IN; sister-in-law, Kay O’Malley of AZ; grandchildren, Lyle & Audrey, and Merit & Clary. Preceded in death by parents and brother Edward O’Malley.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on July 11th at Kemper Center; Visitation from 1-3pm, Memorial service at 3-4pm.
