Nancy I. Edquist, 84, of Kenosha, WI passed away peacefully on Monday morning June 21, 2021, in the care and loving hands of the management and staff at Azura Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice in Kenosha.
Born on June 9, 1937, in Illinois, Nancy was the daughter of the late Roman and Gertrude (Johnson) Ehrhart. At the age of 11 she moved with her family to a farm in Union Grove, WI. Growing up she helped out on the family farm including milking cows and tending to the fields. She attended Rochester Ag High School and after graduating worked at Southern Colony.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Edward, whom she first met on a blind date. They were married on June 11, 1960 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Together, they just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
She is also survived by her four children, William “Bill” Edquist of Paddock Lake, WI, Carol (Sam Pehlivan) Edquist of Kenosha, WI, Mark (Lori) Edquist of Paris, WI, and Robert (Leah) Edquist of Paris, WI; six grandchildren, Timothy, Andrea, Ryan, Carson, Ashlyn and Riley; brother, Kenneth (Darlene) Ehrhart of Dover, WI; sister, Karen Hanson of Racine, WI; and many, many extended loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Al and Gerald, and sister, Lois.
Nancy dedicated her life to her family, friends, and community. She helped her husband run a successful family farm for over 40 years. She ran her own catering business with the help of friends and family for 15 years serving clients and businesses solely by word of mouth. She worked for Kenosha Unified as a Teacher’s Aide for special needs students, retiring in 2002. She was a very active member in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and helped by running the kitchen area and quilting and sewing with the ladies for charity. In her later years she stayed active and busy and enjoyed making cookies at Jerry Smith’s Farm and serving as a poll worker for the Town of Somers.
Nancy loved her family and friends very much. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at every opportunity she could. She was the family matriarch and made sure to bring the family together for every holiday and occasion. She celebrated life by sharing with others her wonderful cooking and baking and helping others however she could.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, relative, friend. She touched a lot of lives and will be greatly missed by many.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8760-37th Avenue, Kenosha, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with the church service to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to be announced after.
