Beverly Joy Surchik, age 88, of Salem, WI and formerly of Trevor, WI, and the Chicago area, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 2, 2022. Daughter of the late Martin and LaVerne (Funk) Meyer, Bev was born on September 20, 1933, in Chicago, IL. On May 21, 1955, she was united in marriage with Howard Green, who preceded her in death on December 9, 1974. After high school, Bev raised a family. After becoming widowed, she worked as a Secretary of Public Works for Hickory Hills, ILL., along with becoming the first female Deputy Building Inspector in ILL. She also earned her Associates Degree and became a Preschool Teacher. In 1983, she began staying weekends in the Center Lake area and moved up in 1993. Bev had a designer’s eye and created the blueprints for two of her homes. She curated the decor of her homes with her creativity and attention to detail, and as her daughters explained, “she could make anything look good”. Bev was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Twin Lakes, WI, where she was a Preschool Assistant for Messiah Christian Preschool. She created beautiful posters, artwork, and calligraphy during her time there. Bev was very involved with and cared deeply about the Sharing Center in Trevor, where she served on the board for many years. She was also a board member of the Salem Community Library.
Above all else, Beverly was a wonderful mother and grandmother. After her husband died, she raised her four children while working, and never let her children feel like she was too busy for them. Bev was patient, gentle, and loving. Her children could rely on her willingness to listen and talk things through. She was a lifelong companion and best friend to her daughter, Jacquelyn. Bev was very involved with her grandchildren despite the physical distance between them and enjoyed long visits as often as possible.
Beverly is survived by her children, Bruce (Drew) Green, Jeffery (Theresa) Green, Joy (Patrick) D’Arcy, and Jacquelyn Green; grandchildren, Brian Green, Scott Green, and Tierna D’Arcy; great-grandchildren, Abe Green and Ben Green; brother, Ron (Barb) Meyer; sister, Jacquelyn (Al) Enzweiler; and her Messiah Lutheran Church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and LaVerne Meyer; and her late husband, Howard Green.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory of Twin Lakes, WI is assisting Beverly’s family.
