John Anthony Cairo passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8th, 2022. He was born on January 28, 1979 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Michael and Carol (Presterl) Cairo. He was the youngest of six children. John attended local schools and graduated from Tremper High School in 1997. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 2001. John was employed at Abbott Laboratories as a Senior Manufacturing Specialist since 2001.
John was the loving husband of Iris Sanchez since 2005. They recently celebrated their seventeenth anniversary. He was dog parent to Fredo. John and Iris enjoyed traveling and visited many different places. He enjoyed reading about history and going for bike rides.
John grew up playing bocci on his grandfather’s bocci court. He was a member of the Lone Oak Bocci Club and a former bocci commissioner of the Italian American Club. He enjoyed playing bocci with his brothers and cousins during the summers and at the annual sibling dinner and bocci gathering.
John is survived by his wife Iris of Waukegan, IL. He is also survived by his sister Rose (Tim) Monfeli of Wind Point, his brothers Michael (Kelli), Timothy (Lori), Thomas, and Daniel (Peggy), all of Kenosha. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Emma of Chicago, his father-in law Cristino (Nery) of Puerto Rico, his sister-in-law Vanessa (Horacio) Terron of Texas, and his brother-in-law Raphael Sanchez of Massachusetts.
He is further survived by his nieces and nephews, August, Nicholas, and Matthew Monfeli, Adam, Sean, and Ty Cairo, Timothy Jr. (Amanda), Gina, and Sabrina Cairo, Christopher Wickline-Cairo, Jacob and Nathalie Cairo, Leonardo, David, and Veronica Terron. He is also survived by his great-nephew Gavin Cairo and his great-niece Evelyn Cairo.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank the Waukegan Police Department and the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in coming to John’s aid in his time of need.
The visitation for John will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 7307 40th Avenue, Kenosha, Wisconsin from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will take place immediately following the service.
