Donald “Don” Gingras, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023 at Ridgewood Care Center in Racine, Wisconsin with family by his side.
Don was born in Pittsfield, MA to Alberic and Helene (Dupont) Gingras on March 24, 1932. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Air Force later that year. He was honorably discharged in 1954 at the rank of A1/C. While in the service, he was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Alaska, England, Africa, and eventually in Tampa, FL, where he met his future bride, Dolores “Dee” (Rutherford). They married in St. Petersburg, FL, on June 14, 1952. After Don completed his tour of duty in the USAF, the couple moved to Wisconsin, where Dolores was from.
Don was employed at McGraw Edison where he was an electrical engineer for over 30 years. He and Dolores eventually settled in a house in South Milwaukee in 1960. After Dolores died in 1994, Don remained in their home for another 10 years.
Don and Dee had 4 children: David (Pat), Dennis (Carolyn), Dawn (Steve) Lambert, and Deborah (John) Zaring.
Don was an accomplished artist, poet, and woodworker as well as an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Arthur and Raymond.
He is survived by his brothers, Lawrence and Joseph and sister, Elaine (Bartlett). He is further survived by his 4 children; 10 grandchildren, (Nathan, Matthew, Kati, Sean, Becky, Michael, Amanda, Todd, Danny, and Megan); 12 great-grandchildren, (Vincent, Marcus, Harper, Marshall, Jesse, Emma, Madison, Lorelie, Kiannah, Damian, Shelby and Zoey), and many other extended family members and friends.
Services for Don were held privately.
