Dr. Martini joins Dr. Rmeileh, Dr. Rosenberg, and Dr. Silenzi to provide around-the-clock cardiology care for this community. Dr. Martini said, “It’s a big deal to have a robust cardiology group at a community hospital. I am excited and honored to be part of this tremendously talented team.”

Matthew Martini, M.D. Interventional Cardiologist

THIS PLACE HAS VISION

“It takes incredible vision and dedication to build a cardiology group and Straight-to-Cath Lab program at a community hospital,” said Dr. Martini. “And we run 24 hours a day! The cardiac services we provide at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital are comprehensive and continually expanding. The communities of Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois should be aware that leading-edge cardiac care is readily available right here in Kenosha.”

Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital is the only hospital in Kenosha County that provides around the clock treatment for heart attack patients and the only one with a Straight-to-Cath Lab program. Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital has established a very organized, collaborative system with many area EMS teams and now the Straight-to-Cath program is meeting the needs of patients having heart attacks 24 hours a day in Kenosha, Walworth, and much of Racine Counties in Wisconsin and parts of Lake County in Illinois. This system saves precious time during a cardiac emergency when every minute matters. When this system is activated, the patient experiencing the heart attack is prepped enroute to the hospital by trained EMS team members and brought directly to the Cath Lab at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital where equipment is pre-positioned and the Cath Lab team is prepared to open the artery and restore blood flow to the heart. Patient outcomes are entirely dependent on the time it takes to get the artery opened, and this program is saving limbs and saving lives.

“I chose to become part of Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital because it is evident that my fellow cardiology colleagues, as well as the staff and administration, are committed to the expansion of services here. What is unique about this hospital is that it is one of the few true community hospitals in this greater area. It is refreshing how much focus is put on caring for the community and being part of the community. Practicing medicine here, I feel supported and cared about. I do not feel like I am merely a cog in a big wheel, and I believe our patients feel supported and cared for in a similar way. Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital is embracing planned growth in my area of interest and expertise, which is structural heart disease. There is not much patient access to this specialty in the greater area, and it is exciting to be able to help bring advanced cardiology care to this community,” said Dr. Martini.

MENTORSHIP MEANS EVERYTHING

Strong mentors have played an important role in Dr. Martini’s entire life. “It began with my dad,” said Dr. Martini. “My dad is a gastroenterologist, and his dedication to and enjoyment of the medical profession made him a great role model for me. While I was completing my medical school fellowship, I connected with a phenomenal mentor who helped me solidify cardiology as my pathway. I was blessed to have six outstanding mentors through my advanced specialty training. Being a lifelong learner is necessary to being a safe, successful, leading-edge physician, and having excellent mentors is the key. I am grateful for all the mentorship I have received through my medical career so far.”

STRUCTURAL HEART SPECIALTY

Dr. Martini and Dr. Rmeileh are both structurally trained interventional cardiologists. “Being structurally trained means that we can complete more complex structural heart operations that are minimally invasive through the wrist or leg and larger scale interventions that can involve devices that are measured in centimeters not millimeters,” said Dr. Martini.

“I think interventional cardiology is a really cool field,” said Dr. Martini. “I love the technology. The field is constantly changing and expanding. I enjoy working in an exhilarating, fast-paced environment with an interesting mix of science and procedures. When a standard approach does not work for a patient, collaborating with the team and drawing upon our knowledge and experiences to find a new solution is so exciting and meaningful to me. I love that I am constantly learning, and every day I am part of this team here at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital makes me a better doctor.”

KIDS, COMMUNITY, AND COLLABORATION

Dr. Martini lives in the greater area with his two children, Emilia and Enzo. “I bike a lot, and I enjoy all the outdoor activities that this area has to offer like exploring parks and fairs. I call myself a board game addict, and I am an avid reader,” said Dr. Martini. “My family is all in the Chicagoland area, so this is a perfect place for me to raise my kids and have them be near their grandparents and extended family.”

Family and community are priorities for Dr. Martini. He said, “While I greatly enjoy the satisfaction of helping a patient with a surgical procedure and seeing their instant relief, I also enjoy the clinical aspect of treating patients long-term and building relationships with them and their families. This is why cardiology is so great to me. I am involved in a potentially life-saving emergent surgical procedure, and then I also get to treat the patient for decades. This job is all about helping people, and I’m proud to be helping people in my community.”

Teamwork makes the trifecta, and Dr. Martini said, “Everything about living in, working in, and caring for this community comes together so wonderfully for me because of the team I am on. The professional collaboration here is outstanding for me as a physician, and the interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the entire Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital system is of the utmost benefit to the patients we care for. I am excited and grateful to be practicing here.”
