Leonard “Len” D. Rizzo, 90, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Kenosha, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 6, 2024, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1934, in Kenosha, WI to the late Dominick and Elizabeth (Montemurro) Rizzo. Leonard attended local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. He attended college in La Crosse, WI before proudly serving in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged and returned home to marry the love of his life, Jean, on November 10, 1956. Leonard opened his own barber shop, Lenny’s, which he operated for 16 years. He was also employed as a custodian at Durkee Elementary School before retiring at 65.
Lenny excelled in sports in high school and college and was inducted into the Kenosha Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. He continued to play sports for many years with his friends. Lenny was a member of the Italian American Club, Holy Name Society, and Holy Rosary 1st Friday Group. He went to the Kenosha Youth Foundation five days a week and volunteered there for special events. He also enjoyed working at the Mount Carmel and Holy Rosary festivals. Lenny loved vacationing with family & friends; his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean; children, Lenny (Shelley), Karen, Diane, Sandra, and Joanne; eight grandchildren, Zach, Kendell (Lucas) Regas, Nick, Lauren (Mark) Valdez, Andrea, John, Paul, and Anthony; and seven great-grandchildren, Isabella, Ace, Gisele, Max, Elsa, Aidan, Avery. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends in Sarasota & Kenosha. The family will all miss his big smile and great sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Lenny was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Rizzo.
Memorial visitation for Leonard will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Proko Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii Parish, 2224 45th St. Kenosha, WI, 53140.
