Enwook Nina Sunu, a beloved wife and servant of Christ, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 90. She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, the Reverend Charles Sunu, as well as her five children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Enwook was a woman of remarkable vision, fortitude, and faith. Born on February 22, 1934 in Korea, she attended Ewha Girls’ High School and later served in the Korean Women’s Army during the Korean War. There, she met and fell in love with a young man, Charles Sunu, who was working with a US Army Chaplain. Through Charles, her faith in Christ was strengthened and they were married on May 6, 1955. Enwook supported Charles through his seminary training and ordination. Together, they helped to fund
the development of churches and guided ministries in South Korea. In 1965, Enwook was able to realize her long-standing vision of bringing her family to the United States.
She would spend the rest of her life in Elmhurst, Illinois and then in the Milwaukee area, leading women’s Bible studies, organizing evangelical block parties, teaching Sunday School classes, hosting church gatherings, visiting and caring for the sick and those in need, and counseling and leading many women to faith in Christ. Throughout her long life, she would provide decades of valuable counsel and support to Charles, who served as pastor of the Korean Church of Milwaukee, now known as Life Creek Church.
Enwook often shared her favorite Bible verse with us
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
– Galatians 2:20
Enwook lived her life in Christ, and through Christ, she lives on. Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 with Visitation at 1pm followed by Memorial Service at 2pm at the Life Creek Church, 2020 E. Drexel Ave, Oak Creek, Wisconsin 53154.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in Enwook’s memory to the general mission fund of
the Life Creek Church.
