Peter John Gallo, 74 years old of Brighton, WI passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at his home.
He was born July 10, 1950, in Kenosha, WI the son of the late Albert and Margaret “Marge” (Goff) Gallo. Peter attended St. Joseph’s High School and went on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree at UW-Parkside. On June 1, 1974, Peter married Shirley A. Kazin, and they remained Kenosha County residents.
Early in his career, Peter worked at Snap-On Tools for 13 years. He then spent the rest of his career serving others; he was on the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department force for 20 years where he retired as a Lieutenant. All the while, he was also on the Kenosha County Bomb Squad as a Commander and the Salem Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, 10 of which he was the Fire Chief. After retiring from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Bomb Squad, he joined the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as Bomb Appraisal Officer where he worked for 5 years at the Milwaukee Airport and then another 6 years at Chicago O’Hare as a Bomb Explosive Specialist before retiring at the end of 2019. Within his many years spent as a Bomb Commander/Officer, he was part of many conferences, from regional to international groups, including the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI). Peter also ran a seasonal ribbon award business (American Imprinting) for many years, where he made placement ribbons for the Kenosha County Fair & Lake County Fair, among other organizations.
Peter was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, New Munster, WI. He enjoyed completing various home improvement projects and was a talented woodworker. Much like his father, he was an enthusiastic Packer fan. He was a cherished Pop Pop, and devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley; children, Jonathan Peter Gallo of Appleton, WI and Jennifer Margaret (James) Taylor of San Diego, CA; siblings, Stephen (May) Gallo of Fairfax Station, VA, Marie (Michael) Metzke of St. Paul, MN, Mary (Dennis) Serpe of Kenosha, WI, Catherine (Timothy) Nelson of Kenosha, WI, and Joseph (Edward Moon) Gallo of Philadelphia, PA; and three grandchildren, Vincent Peter Taylor, and identical twins, Leo James Taylor and Matteo Jonathan Taylor.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Kenosha/Racine Hospice team and for the exceptional care provided during Peter’s final months by Addi, Melissa, Sandy and the staff at Home Helpers of Burlington. A heartfelt thank you to the physical & occupational therapists at Marquette University & St Luke’s Hospital; including Dr. Sarah Stauder. And of course, our wonderful family and friends and their support over all the years.
In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Gallo.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Proko Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the funeral home and interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Somers, WI.
