Carol Jean Barber passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at Hospice House in Kenosha on February 9, 2024, with her loving daughter Laura and pet cat Tommy by her side. Carol was born in Kenosha on November 8, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Irene (Gothaw) Woodard. She attended St. Mary Catholic School and Bradford High School.
On November 19, 1960, Carol Jean Woodard married Nicholas W. Barber at St. Mark Rectory and together they had a daughter Laura born on May 15, 1962. They later divorced but remained friends until his passing on September 3, 2015.
As a young woman, Carol worked at the Naval Base in Waukegan, IL and was the “Queen of the Supply Room.” For many years Carol worked at Kenosha Memorial Hospital as a data processor and eventually retired from there.
Carol loved to play BINGO with her daughter and friends. She also enjoyed shopping at flea markets and Festival Foods. She was a big fan of Tom Jones. She regularly fed the neighborhood squirrels and enjoyed sitting on her front porch to watch them. In her younger years, Carol enjoyed gardening. In her later years, Carol especially enjoyed going out for breakfast with her family and friends.
Carol is preceded in death by her ex-husband Nick Barber, her parents Albert and Irene Woodard, and a sister Judith Ann who died in infancy. Carol’s ashes will be buried at St. James Cemetery with her family.
Carol is survived by her daughter Laura (David) Collins and her grandson Aaron Collins. They reside in Peekskill, New York.
A visitation and funeral mass will be held for Carol Barber on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 7307 – 40th Avenue, Kenosha, WI. Visitation will be held in the church vestibule from 9-10 a.m. immediately followed by mass in the church from 10-11a.m. After mass, Carol will be buried with her family at St. James Cemetery located at 7002 Seventh Avenue, Kenosha, WI.
