Charles Edwin Schumann, 87, of Bristol, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Joliet, IL on March 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Guido and Norma (Gorenson) Schumann.
On April 14, 1971, he married Mary Ann Pochiber in Greensburg, PA.
Charles was a member of the United States Navy, honorably discharged in 1959. After discharge, he went to work for Commonwealth Edison, where he was on the team that started up the Zion Nuclear Station. When Three Mile Island happened, Charles was assigned to the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations in Atlanta, GA. He evaluated nuclear power plants across America, ending his career as the Plant Manager at the Waukegan generating station. As he was about to retire, Charles took the Certified Financial Planner exams and practiced fee only financial planning. After retiring, he joined the International Executives Service Corp and was sent to India for a summer. He and his wife traveled the world extensively and then retired to Tucson, AZ for 15 years as snowbirds hiking the mountains and dessert and exploring the Southwest.
Charles was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. In addition to traveling, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his yard.
Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann, daughter, Judi (Jim) Adams of Burlington, two granddaughters; Sarah (Max) Thomsen of Chicago, IL and Emily Adams of Milwaukee, two great grandchildren; Elliot Whitcomb and Lucy Thomsen, two sisters; Janet (Richard) Fazio and Norma Kay, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services and interment will be held privately for the family.
