Daniel G. Ervin Sr., a lifelong resident of Kenosha, passed away on June 4th, 2024, in the care of Hospice Alliance, surrounded by family. He was born in Kenosha on May 21st, 1946, to the late Lester Ervin and Doris (Livingston). He attended local schools and served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, when he was honorably discharged. He worked as an operator for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years until his retirement. On August 5th, 1967, he married Barbara Becker and later raised a beautiful family together.
At 6’ 8” (5 foot 20 in his words), to his friends and family he was known as “Big Dan”. He took joy in making everyone laugh and had the most contagious and unique laugh in the room. In his younger years he was an active member of the Danish Brotherhood. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life: fishing, hunting, photography, woodworking, handyman, rod & reel repair, volunteering with his churches, and reading about the Civil War, his favorite musicians and cooking. He was very proud of his work with the Kenosha Band Boosters and for years transported equipment for Band-O-Rama. His children have fond memories of the hours he spent playing his guitars and telling stories from his years on the railroad.
He is survived by his children: Daniel Ervin Jr. (Nicole), Laura Ervin (Geno Llanas), and Heidi Ervin, and grandchild: Noah Ervin. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara (Becker) Ervin, and siblings: Lucille Ervin and Deborah Appleby. He is further survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and by his beloved cat Teddy who was very important to him.
The family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, the entire team at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie and Aurora Kenosha, his good friend Gary Lewis, and his special friend Franny Stancar.
Services will be announced at a later date.
