Dolores Kitchin Schneider, affectionately known as “Dee”, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at The Addison of Pleasant Prairie with the care and support of Hospice Alliance of Pleasant Prairie. She was surrounded by her 3 children and the prayers of family and friends. Dee was born on May 28, 1926 in Lambertville, NJ, the daughter of David and Marion (Masterson) Edwards. She graduated from Lambertville High School and married Donald J. Kitchin, her high school sweetheart, in 1947 after he returned from service in the U.S. Navy. Their three children are Claire (John) Dahl, Fay (Jeff Maliszewski) Kitchin and Don (Elaine) Kitchin.
Dee was widowed in 1958 when Don passed away from an automobile accident. She had the strength and courage to begin anew with a marriage to “Fritz” Schneider, who was born and raised in Kenosha, WI. As a long time employee of Coopers/Jockey International, Fritz was on a short-term assignment to the Lambertville Jockey Shipping Center and fell in love with this vivacious, young mother of three. They were married on June 19, 1959 and their honeymoon trip, with the “Kitchin Kids” in the backseat of the car, was their move to Kenosha. When they arrived, they were exuberantly embraced by a new family and a community of friends, making that transition from NJ easy for them. Dee always said that she was one of the luckiest women in the world. She was blessed with two strong marriages and a wonderful life in both Lambertville and Kenosha. Fritz passed away in 2008 after 49 years of marriage to Dee. Dee was 95 years old at the time of her passing.
Dee was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church of Kenosha and a tireless church volunteer committed to community service. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and a volunteer at Kenosha Hospital. Dee was named a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, was an active member of the Inner Wheel of Rotary and traveled the world attending Rotary conventions. She was the “Queen” of writing cards and letters to family and friends, always remembering special dates and events. She was the unchallenged center of a huge correspondence network. Dee enjoyed playing bridge and golf, knitting, reading and cheering for the Cubs, Badgers and Green Bay Packers, of which she proudly owned one share of stock! She looked forward to a yearly vacation in beautiful Eagle River, WI.
She will be missed by a multitude of special friends. Dee is survived by her children, Claire (John) Dahl, Fay (Jeff Maliszewski) Kitchin and Don (Elaine) Kitchin. She was lovingly called “OMA” by her grandchildren, Adam (Ivy) Dahl, Kara (Matthew) Adamik, Tyler Kitchin and Molly (Jesse) Kuykendall. Her 5 great-granddaughters, Calla, Reece and Livie Dahl, Wendy Kuykendall and Matilda Adamik will always cherish memories of their dear Oma. Dee is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Kitchin and Fritz Schneider and her only sister, Marian (Charles) Garefino.
