Dorothy Mae Spaulding Gray, 82, of Woodstock, IL and Bristol, WI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family from an incurable lung disease on December 24th, 2024.
She was born on August 9th, 1942 to the late Isom and Betty Spaulding in Monterey, VA. She spent her early life in Hot Springs, Bath County, VA and graduated from Valley High School in 1960. After graduation, Dorothy traveled to Richmond, VA for work where she met her husband, Marlon Gray. In 1961 they married in South Carolina and began their life together. They raised two children, a son, Nickolas (Pamela) Gray of Woodstock, IL, and a daughter, Patricia (Andrew) Johnson of Bristol, WI.
The heart of Dorothy’s life was her family, caring for her husband and children all the days of her life. She took pride in traditional homemaking activities and helping her husband and son with the family business. In her free time, she loved to go shopping at any mall.
After her husband’s passing in 2015, she continued her life of devotion to her family enjoying lots of time with her three grandchildren, Garrett (Madeline) Johnson, Abigail (Robert) Salani and Madeline Johnson. She loved seeing her three great-grandchildren, Geneva Mae Salani, Buckley Marlon Johnson and Daphne Sage Salani.
Dorothy is further survived by three siblings and many cousins, nieces and nephews who still reside in Virginia. A brother, William James Spaulding and two sisters, Patsy DePriest and Sally Ryder.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isom and Betty, and her husband, Marlon.
The family would like to thank the employees and volunteers with North Shore at Home and Hospice Alliance for their loving assistance with Dorothy’s long-term care.
