Dorothy Winkelmann, 81, of Anamosa, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at Jones Regional Medical Center following a heart attack..
Dorothy Jane Gross was born September 16, 1939 in Kenosha, the daughter of Adolf and Dorothy (Uelmen) Gross. She attended schools in Kenosha and later graduated from St. Mary High School in Racine, WI in the class of 1957. She married George Winkelmann on October 20, 1962 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kenosha.
She worked at Warwick’s Electronics as a television assembler and later at Bobby Nelson Cheese Shop as she raised her family. She then worked at G. Leblanc Incorporated as an assembler of musical instruments. She retired in 2007.
She was a past member of the American Legion Post in Somers, WI and a present member of the American Legion Post in Anamosa. She enjoyed golf and, being very good at it, won many competitions. She also enjoyed bowling, both in leagues and for fun. She liked taking day trips with George, playing cards, and putting together puzzles.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years George, her children Scott Winkelmann and Tammy (Duane) Lupia, grandchildren Eric Lupia, and Stefany (Nathan) Lupia-Glassmeyer, a great grandson Bennett Glassmeyer, her siblings Edna Gross, Adelphia (Robert) Scaman, Noreen (Robert) Horton, Marilyn (Steve) Butowski, Debbie (Steve) Cannon, Theresa Gross, Bernard (Sally) Gross and Brian (Karen) Gross, a brother-in-law Louis (Mae) Winkelmann, a sister-in-law Alice Daly, as well as by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Leon Gross, Werner Gross, Milton Gross, and Arleen Gross-Neu, a brother-in-law Dick Daly, a sister and brother-in-law Jean and George Bakka and a sister-in-law Betty Jarvis.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jones Regional Medical Center for the wonderful care she received.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Proko Funeral Home. Due to the current health concerns, facial coverings are required and social distancing is encouraged. Interment to follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Kenosha, WI.
