Douglas Kevin Lueck, better known to his adoring grandkids as “Pa”, was born March 21, 1961, in Madison, Wisconsin. He was the fifth of six children born to Robert and Gloria Lueck, and was brother to Bob, Jim, Kathy, Mike, and Cindy. He graduated from Grayslake High School in 1979, and spent many years in the Round Lake area, eventually owning a home there. He devoted his life to his three kids and succeeded in raising them primarily on his own.
He had a long career at Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook, IL, as well as a food delivery driver for a lot of his life. Between these two jobs, he made a lot of friends, and touched countless others with his kindness and generosity. Later in life, after retirement from UL, Doug moved to Kenosha, WI but after a few years there, decided to try a warmer climate and moved to Texas where he lived with his son, and worked as a grocery bagger at Kroger. He eventually returned to Wisconsin and had recently been living in Racine. He worked at Piggly Wiggly there, where he charmed customers and co-workers alike with his kind words and silly jokes, never wavering in his dependability and dedication. Throughout his life, Doug enjoyed reading, with a special affinity for Stephan King novels. He loved listening to music and watching movies, and TV shows. He was a master at jigsaw puzzles. He especially loved watching sports, and attending his kids’, and later his grandkids’ sporting events. He loved ALL sports, but his lifelong loyalty lied with the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. (Special mention to the Chicago Blackhawks.) Douglas tragically lost his life at the age of 62 on the evening of Thursday, November 9, 2023, in a motor vehicle incident in Racine.
He is survived by children, Brandilyn (Tyrone) Johnson, Justin Lueck, and Brett (Megan) Lueck; along with seven grandchildren, with another on the way at the time of his passing; brothers Robert (Linda) Lueck, Jr., Michael Lueck, Sr., and sister Cynthia (Jon) Wendell; fourteen nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews, as well as dearest friends Paul Blankenship and Wade Gebhardt, both of whom he talked to nearly every day.
He was preceded in death by mother, Gloria Lueck; father, Robert Lueck, Sr.; brother James Lueck; and sister, Kathleen Steffen.
He will be intensely missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Proko Funeral Home, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI on a later date. Memorial are appreciated to the family.
