Floyd Allen Hartnell, 73, of Pulaski, WI formerly of Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, with his family by his side.
Born on October 15, 1950, to Thomas “Bill” Glenn Hartnell and Mary “Libby” Elizabeth (Timme) Hartnell, Floyd attended Kenosha schools and graduated from Tremper High School in 1968. On August 1, 1970, he married Patricia Jean Beam, and later welcomed two sons, Christopher and Robert.
Floyd was proud to be the fourth generation in his family to work at the American Brass, where he was employed for 30 years until the business closed in 2000. He moved to Franklin, North Carolina, in 2003 before he returned to Kenosha in 2014.
Floyd was a car enthusiast and as a child, he enjoyed many dirt car races at Wilmot Raceway with his dad. He passed his love of sprint car racing on to his sons, who went on to build and race cars on local dirt tracks. Floyd, his father, and his son, Chris, also restored several older cars over the years, including a 1930 Ford model A and a Chevy Chevelle.
Floyd also enjoyed catch-and-release fishing and was fond of taking long, scenic drives. He was able to fulfill one of his biggest dreams to take the scenic route of the Great River Road trip via Wisconsin Hwy 35, when he and his partner Joyce made the trip from Superior, WI to Dubuque, IA last fall.
Floyd is survived by his sons, Christopher of Silver Lake, WI and Robert of Kenosha, WI; his grandchildren, Pierce Ciskowski and Chance Ciskowski of Salem, WI, Jacob Reed, Kasey Hartnell, and Emma Hartnell of Kenosha, WI; his nieces Vicki (Ken) Perry and Kim Mauser; and many cousins. Floyd also survived by his loving partner of 11 years, Joyce Walker, of Pulaski, WI, and her children, Amanda (James) Tompkins, Jennifer Welch, and Joe Walker; grandchildren Shirley (Josiah) Fankhauser, CJ (Linda) Tompkins, Mason and Jacob Ford; great grandchildren Wyatt, Graceland, and Ivory Fankhauser all of Michigan.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonnie Mitterreitter, brother Leith Hartnell, brother-in-law Thomas Mitterreitter, grandnephew Bobbie Perry, and great grandniece Elena Perry. Floyd’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Kenosha City Church, 6009 Pershing Blvd, Kenosha, WI. A light luncheon will
follow.
The family would like to thank the staff of Unity Hospice for the care and comfort provided to Floyd.
