Gussie Mae Sanchez, age 90, of Kenosha, passed away on April 7, 2025, at Manor Care of Kenosha. She was born on September 24, 1934, in Missouri to the late Joseph and Mollie (Barnes) Williams.
Gussie spent her early years in Missouri before relocating to Kenosha, where she made her home for the remainder of her life. She held several jobs over the years, including positions at the Great Lakes Naval Base and Montgomery Ward, but found her true calling as a librarian at the Lincoln Center. One of Gussie’s greatest passions in life was reading, and she found great joy in sharing that love with others through her work as a librarian, where she inspired many to develop a love of books and learning.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Gussie cherished time with her family. She loved reading, watching Alfred Hitchcock films, and traveling in the family RV. She was also a creative writer who penned many wonderful stories and poems, expressing herself through her vivid imagination and deep appreciation for language.
She is survived by her daughter Erica Sanchez Hawkins and son-in-law Steve Hawkins, her daughter-in-law MaryJo Sanchez, her grandchildren Anjelica, Rain, Damon, Janna, Darius, and Jared, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband José, and her son Darius.
A burial will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park on April 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
