Herbert Gene Blaylock, Jr., aged 64, from Paddock Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Born on September 26, 1959, in Chicago, IL, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Blaylock, in 2019.
Herb, affectionately known as Herbie to a select few, dedicated several years to the McLane Company, a prominent leader in grocery and foodservice supply services. He served in various roles, including as a driver and dispatcher. Prior to that, he worked at Speedway, where he met his cherished Judy.
He was a beautiful soul—a man of quiet contemplation and the skilled hands of a mechanic who could deftly turn a wrench. He spoke sparingly until the moment demanded his wisdom. Often, a certain twinkle in his eye accompanied his thoughts, sometimes paired with a mischievous (or sarcastic!) half-smile. But when he beamed genuinely, his face lit up, bringing a warmth that seemed to envelop the world. His devotion to his family was absolute, always placing them at the forefront. While some perceived him as a solitary figure, his closest friends understood the depth of his friendships and the profound significance he attached to them. Herb will forever reside in our hearts, finding solace in his reunion with Judy.
Left to cherish his memory are Herb’s mother, Joan Smith; his and Judy’s children: Jacob Blaylock, Justin Blaylock, Kurt (Hannah) Ehlers, and Sara (David) Chang; his sister, Cheryl Koos (Bradley) Giampaoli; his brother, Keith (Amy) Blaylock; and his nephew, Alexander Blaylock. He is also survived by grandchildren: Katelyn, Christian, Elliott, Leighton, and Colton; as well as numerous loving sisters, brothers-in-law, and their children and grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Proko Funeral Home in Kenosha, WI.
