James M. Hansen, 93 years old, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI.
James (Jim) was born to the late Magnus and Olivia (Vorum) Hansen on January 21, 1931, in Laurel, Nebraska. After graduating from high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Airforce and was honorably discharged in 1953. He attended college on the GI Bill graduating from Wayne State University. Around that time, he met Suzanne Miller, they married in 1955. They had four children, Greg, Lorie, Eric and Jeff. His beloved wife passed away in 1979. Jim later remarried and had three children, Joe, Christina and Alyssa.
Jim taught at Washington Junior High School for 28 years. After retiring in 1988, he started Hansen’s Gardens, running that business for many years. Jim loved gardening and was a staple at the Old Farmer’s Market. Jim loved college football and his Nebraska Corn Huskers, took a keen interest in politics and enjoyed time with family. Jim was often a contributor to the Kenosha News, Voice of the People.
He is survived by his children, Gregory Hansen, Lorie (Harry) Sneigle, Eric (Kathy) Hansen, Jeffrey (Toni) Hansen, Christina (Chad) Dummer, Joseph (Staci) Hansen, and Allysa Hansen; siblings, Betty Nicewanger and Jackie Burns; grandchildren, Suzanne (Brandon) Becker, Candy Gutierrez, John Pestka, Riley Hansen, Kayley Hansen and Josie Hansen.
In addition to his parents and wife, Suzanne, James was preceded in death by his siblings, Kaja Gade, Peter Hansen, Ruth Crandall, Ruby Merriam, Anne Kathol, Viola Wilson, William Hansen, Elsie Jacobson, and Joyce Rath.
Family will gather privately in memory of Jim, spreading his ashes on the beloved family Farm, where he grew up in Nebraska.
