Jean Mertes, 86, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, went to Heaven on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, WI, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born September 8, 1938, in Sipsy Forks, MS, to the late Ollie Jefferson Pickel and Mary Lucy Pearlie Motes. On February 27, 1960, she was united in marriage to Roger A. Mertes at the First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2015.
Jean was a mom to many, affectionately known as “Mama Jean”. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a District Manager for Avon working closely with her community. Her late husband was always behind her beaming with pride. She was a strong, fearless, and accomplished woman.
The world has lost a great woman; she is now in the arms of Jesus. She put her faith in Jesus and always had a prayer for everyone. She prayed every night with her daughters; every time someone left the house; and every time anyone called on the telephone, always ending the call with, “I love you, call me in the morning.”
Survivors include her two daughters, Pamela Mertes and Lori Ann (Douglas) Larsen, both of Kenosha; granddaughters, Danielle (Nate) Daley and Kristina (David) Tisdale; great grandchildren, Leland and Heart Tisdale; Lux, Veda, Elijah, and Zane Daley; her niece, Patricia Ulmer; and other special family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Roger Mertes; three brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation for Jean will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Memorials to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research would be appreciated by the family.
