John Hancock Jr., 87, of Union Grove passed away on May 12, 2021 at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital.
John was born on March 25, 1934 in Waukegan, IL, the son of the late John and Florence (Johansen) Hancock Sr. He lived in Winthrop Harbor, IL until his family moved to a farm in Paris Township, WI. John joined the United States Air Force after high school where he met Yvonne Annen of Middleton, WI. They were married on August 17, 1957. John was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company as an installer for over 40 years. After raising his family in Beach Park, IL, John and Yvonne moved to Union Grove where John fulfilled his dream of having his own small farm where he raised sheep for 30 years. John also loved car racing, owning and driving his own midget, Ol’ Yeller, which he raced at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. In his later years, he enjoyed attending NASCAR races with his son. He also served as governor of the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge, where he was an active member for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Hancock of Union Grove, WI; children, Jill (Ernie Olfe) Hancock of Libertyville, IL, Jeffrey (Donna) Hancock of Winthrop Harbor, IL; brother, Tom (Joan) Hancock of Paris, WI; sisters, Phydele Davidson of Kenosha, WI, Karen (Bob) Gattorna of PA; also included are his 3 grandchildren, Ryann, Sean and Allison. John is preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Pauline Schlough.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
