John W. Wilson III, 86 years old of Pleasant Prairie, WI passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021, at his home.
He was born October 23, 1934, in Lonaconing, MD, the son of the late John W. and Mary (Moses) Wilson, Jr, the oldest of five children. He grew up in Maryland and at age 22, he moved to Chicago to work for the Railroad for 42 years before his retirement. On November 17, 1973, he married Hazelle nee Clark.
John was an avid reader, especially novels and historical books about the Civil War. He enjoyed volunteering his time at the Kenosha Public Museum; John also loved helping his neighbors and was a caring, soft-hearted man. His hobbies included bowling, solving crossword puzzles, and feeding the local wildlife. John was a sports fan, and especially loved rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He cherished family gatherings, nightly ice cream and tea with his wife.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Hazelle; stepchildren, Gerald Gaida of Florida, Patricia Bender of Union Grove, WI and Rita Myers of Bristol, WI; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Proko Funeral Home with funeral services commencing at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Civil War Museum, c/o Kenosha Public Museums, 5500 First Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53140, in his memory.
