Joseph “Joe” H. Ours, 73, of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25th, surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final moments. He was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. Joe was born on June 2, 1951, to Joseph and Alberta Ours in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Joe met the love of his life, Kathleen Wallace while skating at Orbit Roller Rink; they married on July 8, 1978. He held a variety of jobs throughout his life, from traveling with a carnival after high school to running his home maintenance service, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix It” by those who knew him well. He retired after working for many years at a local church retreat center, managing the property and farm. Families that visited knew him as the ”Boss Man”, or the BeeKeeper, a train conductor, a horticulturist, a horse trainer, and the pool man.
Following his retirement, Joe enjoyed his passion for traveling, camping, and boating with his family. He also enjoyed playing his electric keyboard and organ. He loved taking his family out onto Silver Lake with the pontoon boat to tube, water ski, and fish. Joe adored spending time with his children and his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Silver Lake Community Baptist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 46 years, his sons Michael (Trisha) and Robert (Jennifer), his daughter Amy (Dan), as well as his 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Lester (Christine), David (Pat), and Glenn (Laura), along with many additional relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in passing by his loving parents, Joseph and Alberta, as well as his brothers Richard and John, and his sisters Kathleen and Christine.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17th at Silver Lake Community Baptist Church. Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 pm, with the celebration of life service immediately to follow. Those attending are welcome to join the family in the lower level for light refreshments.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Bruch’s Funeral Home; Froedtert Cancer Center; Hospice Horizon Home Care and Hospice services and those who visited Joe during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation on Joe’s behalf to the American Cancer Society or your local church.
