Judith H. Torrez, 84, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 2nd. Judy was born to the late David & Rose Richmon on February 24, 1941, in Chicago, IL. She grew up with her older brother, Joel, in Waukegan, IL, and spent many years working beside her mother at Eisenberg’s Department Store on Glen Flora Avenue before working alongside her life partner, Bill, at Jewell Electric.
Judy may have been the original American picker. She often turned other’s junk into beloved family treasures. She could transform almost any piece and many adorn the homes of her family, in addition to the home she and Bill built in Pleasant Prairie. Judy was a true lover of live performance – attending innumerable concerts and plays throughout her life. Music was an especially large part of her life and brought her much delight. She was an active member of the community at Beth Hillel Temple. She enjoyed many of their programs and made many treasured friends there.
Above all, Judy’s brightest joy was her family. She adored nothing more than a personal call from her children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins or their families. Her home is filled with photos and cards from all of those whom she loved. She will be so very missed by us all.
Judy is survived by her brother, Dr. Joel (Barbara) Richmon; her children, Jennifer (Terry Linsky) Hendrix, Mia (Johnny) Kilgore, Jason (Lisa) Richmon; her grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Walker, Maxwell (Alyson) Hendrix, Olive, Elliot, and Hazel Richmon; her great granddaughter, Scarlett Hendrix; as well as, Bill’s children, William D. Jewell, Sandra Fioretti-Frank, Matthew Jewell, their respective spouses, and their children.
She is preceded in death by her life partner, William V. Jewell; his children, Mary Anne and Joseph Jewell; and a great grandson, Jack Walker.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6th at 11:30am with a service following at 12:30 p.m. at Beth Hillel Temple (6050- 7th Ave. Kenosha). Interment will follow at Am Echod Cemetery in Waukegan, IL.
Judy was generous with her time and treasure, sharing what she could with a myriad of organizations close to her heart. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Judy’s memory to Beth Hillel Temple or any organization that supports women, children, or animal welfare.
