Judith “Judi” Maksen (née Kober), aged 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on December 18, 2024. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, Judi was born to the late Natalie and Jacob Kober. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School and went on to build a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Judi was married to her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Maksen, for 62 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, Tammy Sue “Sue” Collier and Richard “Rick” Maksen Jr. (Victoria “Vicki”), and delighted in their three grandchildren—Richard “Rik” Maksen III, Lauren Maksen, and Lucas “Luca” Collier.
Judi had a deep love for her hometown, where she cultivated her passions for gardening, reading, playing piano, enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan, cheering on her teams with unwavering enthusiasm. A familiar face to many in the community, Judi worked at Guttormsen’s Lanes in Kenosha and Montgomery Ward Corporate in Chicago, ultimately retiring in 1994.
Her love of animals, especially cats, was a lifelong joy, and she often supported the local Humane Society. Judi was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Joyce Holman and Nancy Haluska, and many dear friends and relatives. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dick; her children Sue and Rick; her grandchildren Rik, Lauren, and Luca; her brother Kenneth “Ken” Kober (Joy Bauch); and a wide circle of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who will miss her sense of humor and kind heart.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Kenosha Funeral Services from 10:00AM-11:00AM, with memorial services to follow at 11:00AM. Entombment will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Judi’s family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life and the cherished memories she left behind.
