Julia Kalvonjian, 100, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 at BrightStar Senior Living in Waunakee, Wisconsin with her family by her side.
Julia was born in Kenosha on December 3rd, 1924 to Arman and Elsie (Parseghian) Mardoian. She graduated from Kenosha High School, attended the University of Wisconsin, and was employed as a buyer at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
On July 21, 1951, she married Hachik Kalvonjian, and she shifted her focus to nurturing and caring for her husband and their two children. She was an avid reader, gardener, and accomplished Armenian cook, and their home was filled with good food, good books, good music and frequent celebrations with extended family. She also enjoyed monthly pinochle games with relatives, and the annual family camping trip to Door County. She was a long-time member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Kenosha and St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church in Racine.
After Hach’s death in 1988, Julia put her energy into her new role of grandmother, bestowing her characteristic warmth, attention, and love on her two grandchildren. She also reconnected with a former coworker and friend, and the two became travel companions, exploring several areas of the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii.
In 1999 Julia moved to Waunakee to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Throughout a series of health challenges, she maintained a positive attitude, and greatly appreciated visits from her family and friends.
Julia is survived by her children Gary (Diane) Kalvonjian and Susan (Robert Hausinger) Kalvonjian, and her grandchildren Michael and Melanie Hausinger. She is also survived by her sister Kathryn Mallek, nieces Leesa Mallek Jones, Julie (Jason) Henry, Carol (Chris Sarlas) Kalvonjian, nephews Chris Kalvonjian, Harry (Sandy) Kalvonjian Jr., Larry (Bridget) Mallek II, great nephews Nicholas Jones, Harry (Allyson) Kalvonjian III and daughter Everly, and Gregory (Kim) Kalvonjian and children Macy and Luke.
Funeral services for Julia will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 5900 7th Avenue, Kenosha. Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church or Agrace Foundation. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staffs at BrightStar Senior Living Waunakee and Agrace Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support for Julia and her family.
