On March 20, 2024, LaMargaret “Sue” Cooper passed away after a sudden decline in health. She was Eighty-Six.
Sue was born to John and Eula Mae Gardner in rural Itawamba County, MS on August 28, 1937. She was raised on her family’s cotton farm. As a child, Sue loved her time with her family in the south having daily chores such as helping with the cooking, tending to the farm animals and working in the field. At eighteen years old, she moved with her family to Kenosha, WI so her dad could find more reliable work. It was here that she met her future husband Gerald Cooper, married, and started a family. Sue initially worked at Cooper’s Inc. (Jockey International) until she decided to stay home to raise her children. She became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in the church, participating in the Women’s Society for many years. After her children were older, she worked at K-Mart as a checkout supervisor.
Sue enjoyed reading novels and could be found at home every morning drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. She also loved tending to her garden. She was even-tempered, cheerful, and selfless. Everywhere she went, people commented that she was a wonderful person and they just loved her. She was adored by her husband every day till he passed away after 43 years of marriage. The rest of her family also loved her immensely and frequently came to her for advice, knowledge and companionship.
Sue is survived by her daughter Peggy (Michael) Jeffries, her son Matthew Cooper, her grandson Logan Cooper, Her great grandchildren, Syriah Shannon and JaNae Shannon, her sister Joyce Augard, and her brother Gary (Tarrell) Gardner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Trennon Gardner, her sister Charlene Thomas, and her sons Christopher Cooper, Gerald Cooper Jr, and Michael Cooper.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Wesley Methodist Church, 4600 – 60th St, Kenosha, WI 53144, with the funeral service starting at 11 a.m.
