Loretta Hofmann, 93, of Kenosha, passed away late on Tuesday afternoon after being surrounded by her family.
Loretta was born on July 5, 1930, to the late Peter and Catherine (Ritter) Thome. Loretta grew up on a dairy farm in Avon, MN, and later attended high school in Albany, MN. It was there she met the love of her life, John Hofmann. While John was in the service during the Korean War, Loretta pursued her Registered Nurse degree at the Saint Cloud Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1951.
John and Loretta married upon his return from the war on November 8, 1952 at the Church of Seven Dolors in Albany. Her favorite thing to do was to travel in their camper, with trips throughout the entire United States, including their trip of a lifetime to Alaska. She is also known for the many cherished quilts and crocheted items she has gifted.
Loretta is survived by her children, Joan (Kerry) Vermillion of Santa Clarita, CA, Stephen of Chamberlin, SD, Charles (Teresa) of Kenosha, Carol (Patrick) Rice of Cottage Grove, MN, and Catherine (William) Hart of Lake Forest, IL; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin (Lindsay), Andrew, Erica (Michael), Eva (Tylor), Sean (Lindsay), Sara (David), Anna (Richard), Ryan, Erin (Neil), Chris (Jamie), Brenna (Michael), Erik (Taryn) and Kaley (Brad); 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Hildegard Dirkes, Marcella Schneider, Marie Lauer, Catherine Schoenberg, Aloys Thome, Albert Thome, Peter Thome, one grandchild, Kimberly, and one daughter-in-law, Nancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919 54th St, Kenosha, WI 53140, at 12 noon. Father McDermott will officiate. A Rosary will be said at Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m on Saturday with visitation immediately following until 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private at Southern Wisconsin Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
