Mario Carmelo Miceli 84, formerly of Kenosha, most recently a resident of Estero, Florida passed away Thursday, October 26th, 2023, at NCH Healthcare System Naples Florida.
Born in Marano, Marchesato, Province of Cosenza, Italy, on July 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Maria C. (De Filippis) Miceli. He was educated in the schools of Italy, coming to Kenosha in 1966 where he resided until 2020 before moving to Estero Florida.
On August 3,1969 in Italy, he married Maria Greco. In 1967, Mario along with his brothers Ido and Francesco opened Miceli Brothers Tailor Shop and Photography Studio in Kenosha on 52nd Street. He was involved in tailoring his entire life, from minor alterations to custom made suits and at every major family event he could be seen with a camera documenting all the precious moments. He had many hobbies and diverse interests. He was an avid gardener and especially proud of his yearly harvest of heirloom tomatoes. He raised canaries and had a huge aviary in his basement. He enjoyed hunting, wild mushroom picking, wine making and playing bocce ball at the Italian American Society where he was a proud member for over 50 years. He was a huge sports fan, closely following all the local teams and especially the Green Bay Packers. He leaves behind his strong catholic faith and service to Holy Rosary Church where he was a member since 1967, he was a member of the Holy Name Society, volunteered at bingo, sports night and served as a Eucharistic minister for over 20 years. With his wife Maria and family in 1990 they started one of the most popular traditions at Holy Rosary Festival by introducing his mother-in-law’s famous Fried Dough recipe. He had a great circle of friends who he loved very much and enjoyed their monthly dinner parties. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Maria; two sons, Roberto Miceli (Shelia) residing in Oakbrook, Illinois, John Miceli (Amy) a daughter Enes Bosco (Dino) both residing in Pleasant Prairie, WI. A brother Francesco (Ada) Miceli, a sister, Vanda Parrone both of Kenosha and nine grandchildren, Lauren, Arianna, Michael, Giovanni, Daniella, Emma, Niko, Laila, Talia. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ildo and wife Irma and two sisters, Enes, and Celestina. A niece Maria Miceli, a nephew Antonio Parrone, and a grandnephew Robert Parrone.
Mario was a master tailor by trade, a true artist using fabrics and thread to create something beautiful. In his personal life he gathered the individual threads of his family, stitched them together and created something beautiful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 4th, 2023, at 11:00AM at Our lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii Catholic Church in Kenosha. (Corner of 22nd Avenue and 45th Street) Visitation with the family will be on Saturday in the church from 9:00AM until the time of mass. Entombment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
