Mary Ann Matoska, age 91, died peacefully surrounded by her children on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Mary was born on August 9, 1933, in Kenosha to the late Matus and Anna (Secansky) Bruchaty. She attended St. Mark Grade School and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1951.
On May 6, 1961, Mary was united in marriage to Peter Matoska at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Kenosha. Mary and Peter were married for 55 years until Peter’s passing in 2016. They were blessed with three children.
In high school Mary worked at Schuler’s Bakery in downtown Kenosha. After graduation she worked for Nash Motors in the office for the Master Mechanics of Aircraft Engines until the birth of her first child.
Mary’s Catholic faith was the center of her life. She was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Kenosha where she was a faithful volunteer in the learning center and library for over 35 years. She enjoyed working at parish bingo, catering for parish events and volunteering at the Soup Kitchen and Shalom Center from its beginning in Kenosha. Mary was a member of St Mark Christian Mothers and The Wisconsin Slovak Historical Society. Mary found joy in attending daily mass, saying the rosary and being of service to others. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, putting together puzzles and playing board games with her children and family.
Mary’s family was the joy of her life. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Anne (David) Curry of Kenosha, sons, Michael (Debra) Matoska of Sheboygan Falls and Thomas (Diane) Matoska of New Berlin; her grandchildren, Matthew (Samantha) Curry, Elizabeth Curry, Dr. Thomas Matoska (Grace), Ryan Matoska, Kirsten Schmidt and Madalyn Schmidt; her great grandsons, Greyson Curry and Beckham Curry; her sister, Helen (Edwin) Setter; sisters-in-law, Marian Matoska and Anna Matoska; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary will always be remembered for her love of God, love of family, her beautiful smile and generous hospitality.

A visitation honoring Mary’s life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Piasecki Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave, Kenosha.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2223 – 51st Street.
Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
