Mary Michele (Metten) Vidas passed away peacefully at age 65 surrounded by her family, at home on
Saturday, September 25, 2021, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
The daughter of the late Donald and Beverly (nee Beyer) Metten was born on June 3, 1956 in Kenosha.
She was a graduate of Tremper High School and attended UW-Parkside.
On Sept. 8, 1979 she married the love of her life, John P. Vidas at St. George Catholic Church and is a current member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She worked at Jockey International until she became a stay-at home mom to raise her three children. When her kids were grown, she became an educational assistant for KUSD, a job she loved dearly. She touched the lives of many students over her 24 years with the district working at both Columbus and Harvey Elementary. She loved working with all children but she always held a special place in her heart for the special needs children she worked with. Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
She loved camping, especially in her favorite place, Door County, vacationing with her children and grandchildren in Florida, walking with her family and friends along the lakefront and through Petrifying Springs. She enjoyed reading, yoga, working in her flower filled yard and her monthly dinner outings with friends. She cherished filling her calendar with all of her grandkids activities and was so excited to recently find out that she would be having her first granddaughter early next year.
She will be greatly missed by her husband John; her daughter, Kristin (Jeff) Wirch, Kenosha; her two sons, Michael (Melissa) Vidas, Kenosha and Matthew (Elizabeth) Vidas, Seattle, WA; her one sister, Nancy (Mike) Behr, Kenosha; her five grandchildren, Ben, Brady, Cole and Grant Wirch, Brecken and new coming baby Vidas; her two sisters-in-law, Mary (Ted) Hodan, and Judy Vidas; her aunt, Sandra (Peter) Roach, and many loving nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her dog and walking companion, Tinker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Donna Metten and a niece.
